“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” — John 13:34 (NIV)

Reflection

In the upper room, just hours before His arrest, Jesus didn’t leave His disciples with a list of rules or a strategy for ministry—He left them with a command rooted in His very heart: Love one another as I have loved you.

This wasn’t a suggestion or an optional virtue. It was a call to live and love differently—to embody the same selfless, sacrificial, and forgiving love that Jesus poured out on the cross. The love Jesus demonstrated wasn’t based on worthiness or comfort; it was based on choice. He chose to wash the feet of those who would betray and abandon Him. He chose compassion when He could have chosen justice. He chose mercy when He could have demanded retribution.

To love as Jesus loves is not natural—it’s supernatural. It requires surrender. It means forgiving those who have wounded us, serving those who cannot repay us, and showing grace to those who least deserve it. It means letting Christ’s love shape our reactions, our words, and our motives.

When we love like Jesus, the world sees something it cannot explain. Love becomes the evidence of the living Christ within us. It becomes our greatest testimony.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You for loving me beyond measure. Teach me to love others as You have loved me. Help me to forgive easily, serve joyfully, and see others through Your eyes. Let my life be a reflection of Your love in a world desperate to feel it.
Amen.
