Scripture:
“So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.” — Matthew 6:31–32 (NIV)
Reflection
Worry is a thief. It steals our peace, our sleep, and our joy. Yet Jesus reminds us that worry is also unnecessary, because the One who created us already knows what we need.
When Jesus spoke these words, He was addressing people who struggled daily to survive, men and women who didn’t know where their next meal might come from. Still, His message was simple: Trust your Father.
The birds don’t store food in barns, yet they are fed. The flowers don’t labor or spin, yet they are beautifully clothed.
God’s provision is not based on our striving; it’s rooted in His faithfulness. He provides not only what sustains our bodies but what strengthens our souls. Sometimes that provision looks like answered prayer. Other times, it’s strength to endure, wisdom to wait, or peace in the storm.
When we stop chasing after what we think we need and start trusting the One who knows what we need, we find rest. The same God who paints the lilies and feeds the sparrows has already written our story, and in it, He has made room for every need to be met.
Prayer
Father, thank You for knowing my needs before I speak them. Teach me to trust You more deeply, to rest in Your provision, and to seek Your kingdom first. Replace my worry with faith and my fear with peace.
Amen.
Faith Challenge
When anxiety tries to rise, pause and say aloud:
“My Father knows what I need.”
Then thank Him, even before the answer comes. Gratitude is the language of trust.
